NIGHTLIGHTS
NightLights is the loving depiction of the unbreakable bond between a sister and her brother with autism.
Erin and Jacob live in relative solitude, going through decade old routines and relying on each other for companionship. The one outside presence in their life is Gina, a developmental therapist, who helps Erin teach Jacob basic life skills and sometimes pressures Erin to consider placing Jacob in a facility. Erin, however, is devoted to her brother and vows to be his primary support.
Things begin to change when Erin meets Tim, a charismatic editor whose zest for life makes Erin consider the possibilities her future may hold. She befriends Nicole, a vivacious neighbor, who becomes a veritable member of Erin's family and helps persuade Erin to this pursue an uncertain but exciting relationship with Tim.
These adjustments dramatically change Erin and Jacob's life together, and Jacob wrestles to understand and cope with a frightening and unpredictable series of changes. All characters are forced to question who they are as people, which leads all to a bittersweet and earnest resolution.
NightLights draws its inspiration from the real life stories of families with autism across the country. Autism is portrayed with utmost care and reflects sometimes harsh, sometimes inspiring realities that exist between individuals with autism and those who love and care for them.
